Cosmetic Surgery Procedure
If you are one of the millions of people who are considering cosmetic surgery, the following are some of the major procedures to choose from:
Common Cosmetic Procedures
Abdominoplasty
As its name suggests, this procedure involves cosmetic surgery of the abdominal area of the patient's body. Consequently, it is also commonly known as the "tummy-tuck". The overall effect being sought with the tummy- tuck is a reduction of the fat particles built up around the abdominal area. In order to achieve this desired result, the abdomen is flattened by removing excess fat and then a tightening the muscle around the abdominal wall is undertaken.
Botox Injections
A procedure that is intended to smooth away the frown lines and wrinkles around the eyes. Botox injections use a chemical that paralyzes the muscle around the eyes: so you need to be aware that youll have less movement here following the procedure.
Breast Implants
Breast implants are a surgical procedure whereby saline-filled bags are implanted between the patient's breast tissue and chest muscle. The aim of a breast implant is to enhance the overall size and shape of the breast to give the breast a more pleasing look.
Breast Lift
As the name of the procedure indicates, a breast lift is a procedure which lifts the patient's breast by means of removing excess skin and repositioning the remaining tissue and nipples.
Chemical Peel
Chemical peel is procedure aimed at restoring a fresh look to the patient's skin by removing wrinkles and blemishes of the skin. In particular, the procedure is popular among those who live in dry, sunny climates, where the skin's pigment is more susceptible to damage. The procedure is completed by use of a chemical solution being used on the infected area to peel away the skin's top layers (hence the name).
Collagen / Fat Injection
Almost the complete opposite of liposuction, collagen involves the implanting of fat tissue to areas of the body that may be furrowed or sunken. The procedure is particularly popular on the face and lips; however, treatment of the hands is also possible.
Dermbrasion
This procedure involves the scraping off of the top layer of the patient's skin using a high-speed rotary wheel. The intended aim to soften the edges of the face that have been damaged. The treatment is particularly popular among those who want to clean up acne scars, wrinkles or certain facial scars.
Ear Surgery
This procedure really only applies to children and is sometimes (unkindly) known as the Dr. Spok treatment. Essentially what is being done is that prominent ears are being set closer to the head so as to reduce the overall look of their size.
Eyelid Surgery
A popular procedure, eyelid surgery is a surgical procedure which reshapes the patient's eyelids, removing the bagginess around the eyelid and tightening the skin.
Facial Surgery [including facelifts, forehead lifts and facial implants]
A popular cosmetic surgical procedure among those in their mid-40s, facial surgery can come in the form of a facelift, forehead lift, or facial implant. Essentially the first two of these three procedures involves the tightening of the skin around the face and forehead. The last of these three procedures involves inserting implants into the face to give the face a more rounded look (popular with those who may be suffering from a receding chin or to return youthful looks to the cheeks).
Hair Replacement Surgery
Hair replacement surgery involves trying to regenerate growth of the hair by means of transplanting new roots of hair to an affected area. This process can be undertaken by means of a scalp reduction, tissue expansion, or hair graft.
Lipoplasty
Also known as liposuction, this procedure involves the removal of pockets of fat around the body; for example: a chin-tuck to rid the patient of a double-chin or a tummy-tuck. The procedure can be carried out in a number of ways, but the most popular is by use of a vacuum device.
Nose Surgery
Nose surgery may include a number of surgical techniques, from reducing the overall size and shape of the patient's nose to enhancing the nasal features of the patient's face. This procedure is particularly popular with those who have, for one reason or another, broken their nose. It is also helpful, however, for those who suffer from sleep-related problems as a result of not being able to breath properly.
An Example Of The Procedure Abdominoplasty
As mentioned above, abdominoplasty is a surgical procedure to remove excess skin/fat particles built up around the patient's abdominal area. This procedure is achieved by removing the fat particles and excess skin and then flattening the abdomen by tightening the muscles of the abdominal wall.
Depending upon the amount of fat to be extracted, this process can take between 3 and 5 hours to be completed - and usually entails the patient having to undergo general anesthetic (although local anesthetic can be administered in certain circumstances).
Following the procedure, the patient is likely to feel pain and incur swelling in and around the operative area; but, provided that the patient does not do any heavy lifting or strenuous exercise, there should be no reason why the patient cannot begin to resume normal day-to-day activates within 2 to 4 weeks following the procedure.
